Bruno Nobile de Vistarini (1891-1971) and Wijnand Lemei (1892-1945) worked in the Dutch East Indies, initially both for the National Buildings Agency. Bruno Nobile de Vistarini, born in Leitersberg (present-day Kosaki in Slovenia) studied at the Technical Highschool (TU) of Graz. In Surabaya he designed the beautiful Christian Mulo School (1928). He was interned in May 1940. After the war, he led the reconstruction of Knittelfeld in Austria. Wijnand Lemei studied at the Technical Highschool (TU) in Delft. Almost immediately after his arrival in the Dutch East Indies, he realized the Central Civil Hospital in Semarang. In 1941 he was appointed professor at the Bandung Technical Highschool. In 1945 he died of exhaustion in the Ambarawa Japanese camp. The lives of Bruno Nobile de Vistarini and Wijnand Lemei have crossed. For example, they cooperate in the design of the famous Djelok hydroelectric power station in Salatiga. This BONAS book focuses for the first time on the work of these architects.
