The buildings of Museum Bahari, or the former
'Westzijdese Pakhuizen', are certainly among the most historical buildings in
Jakarta that represent the VOC period in Indonesia. Together with the Castle
(Benteng), which stood for the administration of the VOC, the warehouses were
synonymous with trade, the core activity of the company. The historical
importance of the compound and the buildings is evident. This book is a product
of five authors it shows the varied history of the location and buildings 'from
warehouse to museum. The publication is initiated by the Bahari maritime museum
in Jakarta.
